Ron Christopher is an award-winning
photographer who sees with his heart as well as his eyes. Since
1974 his unique portrait skills have been employed from Coast
to Coast and internationally. His images have been featured in
virtually every sector of the media from television, movies and
commercials to bridal magazines and roadside billboards.
Ron credits much of his photographic uniqueness to his twelve
years of experience in television as a Film Editor, Producer
and Production Director for the current CBS television affiliate
in Phoenix, Arizona. As Ron puts it..
"It was during my
television years that I began to appreciate just how powerful
images can be. The difference between a good photograph and an
extraordinary portrait is not the pose or the image itself. It
is what the image portrays. One must possess the ability to see
more then a lens and capture something infinitely deeper. Specifically,
the moods, attitudes, feelings and relationships of the one being
photographed. The goal is not the image. The goal is to capture
the person in the image."

Extraordinary portrait and
wedding photography by definition, requires much more than ordinary
technical expertise. It goes far beyond trick filters or a list
of the photographer's favorite poses. It's understanding who
and what we are trying to capture and knowing instinctively precisely
when a gesture or touch is about to reveal more than words could
ever express.
There are no special poses,
skills or tools which insure exceptional results. In fact, technically,
one can take a great exposure of a truly bad picture. Why? Because
people are wonderfully different. We come in a variety of shapes,
sizes, attitudes and personalities. Some are romantic, reserved,
playful, shy, or outgoing. To capture these differences with
the most flattering, expressive and faithfully accurate poses,
a photographer must be able to observe the intangible elements
of his subjects personality, mannerisms and body language.
Consider this analogy.
A musical instrument cannot strum, pluck or blow a single note
on its own. However, depending on who plays it, it can produce
the most beautiful melodic refrains or the worst ear-piercing
racket imaginable. That is because the beauty and excellence
originates in the heart and soul of the musician, not the instrument.
So it is with photography.
A camera can only produce
what a photographer sees or visualizes. Knowing how to convey
a mood, attitude or feeling must come from the mind, heart and
talent of the photographer. The tools and techniques he employs
are merely the instruments which help manifest what he feels
and what he senses from behind the lens.
In the end, it is not
how much you spend or what package you select that will make
you happy. It's the photographer. You can spend a lot of money
and get very good or very bad pictures. Likewise, you can select
the most elaborate package and end up with an album filled with
great images or pages of huge disappointments. The price you
pay does not insure satisfaction.
In short, don't just shop
for the best price or package. Instead, shop for the talent,
technique and skill of a photographer who is capable of producing
the kind of images you desire. That way you can be certain, any
package you select will be all you hoped for.
